About this gay guide to Buenos Aires
Buenos Aires is the gateway to Argentina and whether you are tourist heading for the impressive water falls at Iguazu, wine-tasting in Mendoza, skiing at Bariloche, whale-watching at the Peninsula Valdes, glacier walking at Perito Moreno, heading for the Antarctic from Ushuaia, or boarding a gay cruise ship, you should not fail to spend some time in the city. Buenos Aires offers not only stylish architecture (the city is not called the Paris of South America for nothing), but also pavement cafes, steak restaurants (and what lucious beef) and cheap shopping. Over the last two years the city has become well known for its liberal attitude to gay life so that it has become the destination of choice for gay tourists to South America. Buenos Aires now has many gay discos, bars, hotels, saunas, movie theaters, and possibly the best-looking men you will see anywhere.
Argentina is now recovering strongly from the economic crisis and devaluation of 2002 and prices of just about everything are, compared to the northern hemisphere, at bargain level. Consequently in BuenosAires there has been an increase, along with the increase in LGBT tourism, in gay-friendly businesses such as real estate, apartment rental, travel agents, language classes, tango classes, bars, restaurants, hotels and guesthouses. As well as here you can find many of these advertised in the gay maps and magazines.
In February 2005 Buenos Aires was host to a conference by the International Gay & Lesbian Travel Association IGLTA. In September 2007 the International Gay & Lesbian Football Association held the Football (soccer) World Championship in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
A strong local gay community, combined with the sharp devaluation of the peso in

years.
